Helping You Stay Safe, Independent and Comfortable at Home: How Occupational Therapy Can Help
For most of us, home is much more than four walls and a roof. It's where we feel most comfortable, where our memories are made and where we want to continue living for as long as possible. Whether you're recovering from an illness, living with a disability or simply finding that everyday tasks have become more difficult, staying at home safely can sometimes require a little extra support.
That's where we come in.
At Occupational Therapy Providers, we work with adults across Dublin and the surrounding counties, helping people remain safe, independent and confident in their own homes. Every day, we meet individuals and families who want practical advice and solutions that make everyday life easier. We understand that every person and every home is different, so our approach is always tailored to your individual needs, goals and lifestyle.
Our aim is simple: to help you continue living independently in the place you call home.
A Home Assessment That Focuses on You
When we visit your home, we're not just looking at your diagnosis or medical condition. We're looking at how your home works for you.
We take the time to understand the activities that are important in your daily life and identify any barriers that may be affecting your independence or safety.
During a home assessment we may look at:
Access into and around your property
Getting on and off chairs
Getting in and out of bed
Bathroom safety; safely accessing washing facilities and managing toilet transfers
Using stairs
Preparing meals
Reducing falls risks
Following the assessment, we'll provide practical recommendations in a report that are realistic, achievable and centred around your own goals.
Supporting Home Adaptations and Council Grant Applications
Many of our clients need adaptations to make their home safer and more accessible.
We regularly complete occupational therapy assessments and reports to support applications for:
Housing Adaptation Grants for People with a Disability
Mobility Aids Grants
We have extensive experience preparing reports for South Dublin County Council, Dublin City Council, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council (DLR) and other local authorities across the greater Dublin area.
Our reports clearly explain how recommended adaptations will improve safety, accessibility, and independence, helping local authorities understand exactly why the work is needed.
Whether you're considering a level-access shower, stairlift, ramp, grab rails, or other home modifications, we'll guide you through the assessment process and explain the recommendations every step of the way.
Falls Prevention and Home Safety
One of the most common reasons people lose confidence at home is after experiencing a fall—or worrying about having one.
Occupational therapists are experts in identifying falls risks and finding practical ways to reduce them.
Sometimes it's as simple as recommending grab rails or removing trip hazards. Other times, it may involve equipment, home adaptations, or introducing new ways of completing everyday tasks.
Small changes often make a huge difference to confidence and independence.
It's About More Than Equipment
One of the things our clients often appreciate most is that we don't just provide a report and leave.
As occupational therapists, we know the wide range of services available to support people living at home, and we're always happy to point people in the right direction.
Depending on your circumstances, we may signpost or link you with services such as:
Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme
Personal pendant alarm providers
Public Health Nursing
Physiotherapy and other community rehabilitation services
Local community organisations and voluntary supports
Sometimes, simply knowing what services are available can make all the difference.
Supporting Safe Hospital Discharge
Returning home after a stay in hospital can feel overwhelming, particularly if your needs have changed.
We can liaise with acute hospital teams, community healthcare professionals and family members to help ensure your discharge home is as safe and smooth as possible.
This may involve completing a home assessment before discharge, recommending equipment or adaptations, or coordinating with other professionals so that the right supports are in place before you return home.
Our goal is to help make the transition from hospital to home as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
A Team That Takes the Time to Listen
At Occupational Therapy Providers, we know that inviting someone into your home is a personal experience. That's why we take the time to listen to what's important to you.
We don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we work alongside you and your family to find practical ways of maintaining your independence, improving your safety and helping you continue doing the things that matter most.
Whether you need advice following a fall, an occupational therapy home assessment, support with a housing grant application, or recommendations for equipment or home adaptations, we're here to help.
